Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss and all the other bands he’s played in are expensive tickets, and for those of us too poor to buy a ticket or not smart enough to come up with a plan to successfully steal one, seeing Nick Oliveri with his band Mondo Generator is probably the next best thing.
The music is really as smart as balls to the floor rock is ever going to get, almost being a bit of a tribute to bands that we’ll have to wait another 10 years for them to come into fashion again (because people are dumb). Its music to mosh and drink and swear and have hateful but loving sex to. It’s your perfect Thursday night.
Additionally and excitingly for the Aussies out there, for the 2010 tour you’ll find Mick Curley on lead guitar and Luke Armstrong on drums, they’re both from Wollongong band Hy-Test, Mick Curley being the kid brother of Lenny & Jay Curley from Tumbleweed. We might not much be good at soccer, but we know how to rock.
The new album from Mondo Generator, Time To Destroy, is due out end of July or sometime in August, so there’s that as well. Getting heaps drunk, taking your pants off and having a dance and getting to hear new stuff from Nick Oliveri’s band is a pretty rambunctious way to kill a few hours on a thursday night. And only 15 quid.
